Online Graphing Tools

Today I created and published two online documents (via Google Docs). In these two documents, I used charts that I made at Kids Zone. I looked at two different types of data (retrieved from the National Center for Education Statistics), and played with some of the Kids Zone functions to present the data in different ways. In my first document, I presented a set of date regarding West Virginia vs. National math averages for NAEP testing scores for 4th grade students. In this document, I portrayed the state of West Virginia as one in need of dire financial assistance by manipulating the scale. To see this first document, click here.

In my second document, I looked at a similar set of data regarding West Virginia vs. national math averages for NAEP testing scores for 8th grade students. In this document, I adjusted the scale to present the data in a fashion that makes it appear that West Virginia's averages are very close to the national averages. These skills relate to ISTE NETS 5C:  "evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of student learning." I would be able to use information from current research regarding the NAEP tests to inform students, peers, and parents about what needs to be done to stay on track with the national NAEP averages.
